Along with the Bible, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s “The Little Prince” is the most frequently translated book on Earth – it was rendered into more than 375 languages so far. It’s also a constantly republished bestseller. Tomasz Swoboda, translator and chapter member of the Gdynia Literary Prize, will discuss the phenomenon of “The Little Prince” with Maciej Bandur, who translated the book into Kashubian. Gdynia is Poland’s only literary prize which recognizes translators as well as essayists, poets, and writers.
Maciej Bandur – initiated the “Môłi princ” project (“The Little Prince” in Kashubian) and crowdfunded the translation. The book will be sold at the event. Contributor of Kashubian periodical “Skra – pismiono ò kùlturze”, translator with Radio Gdańsk and Radio Kaszëbë.
Tomasz Swoboda – member of the Gdynia Literary Prize chapter, columnist, award-winning translator (recipient of the “Literatura na świecie” prize for translation and the Andrzej Siemka Award for “Story of the Eye”). Translated the works of Baudelaire, Nerval, Bataille, Leiris, Sartre, Barthes, Caillois, Starobinski, Didi-Huberman, and Le Corbusier, as well as the Ariol comic strip. He works at the Faculty of Languages of the University of Gdańsk.
