BASTIAN OBERMAYER

The protagonist of "The Panama Papers". Bastian Obermayer, 41, is a Pulitzer Prize winning investigative journalist and the head of the investigative unit of the Munich-based Süddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s biggest newspaper. Obermayer is also member of the International Consortium for Investigative Journalists (ICIJ).

Working with his partner in crime at Süddeutsche Zeitung, Frederik Obermaier, he received the Panama Papers from an anonymous whistleblower. Together with the ICIJ and 400 journalists from nearly 80 countries, they broke the story about the leak. Their book about the Panama Papers, an international bestseller, has been translated in 15 languages.

Obermayer previously worked on the collaborative investigations OffshoreLeaks, LuxembourgLeaks, ChinaLeaks and SwissLeaks, and won numerous German and international awards.
