Meeting with the directors and the protagonist of the film “Mother Vera”

after the screening of the film MOTHER VERA, dir. Cécile Embleton, Alys Tomlinson

The film's protagonist, Vera, led a turbulent life in Minsk, the capital of Belarus. She was saved from falling into addiction by her decision to join a monastery. The silence, the forest, the discipline of the monastery, and caring for a hundred patients of a centre for alcohol and drug addicts – this is how she spent twenty years of her life. She sees what she ran away from in the patients' faces. The beautiful cinematography gives the film additional symbolism, creating a metaphysical atmosphere in which light and shadows become the narrative's protagonists. After the screening, we will talk to the film's directors and the protagonist.
