Marjolein Busstra is a documentary filmmaker and photographer whose work explores themes of political and cultural exclusion, trauma, and human rights. She has created documentary projects for organizations such as Doctors Without Borders and Amnesty International. Her practice is research-driven and immersive, grounded in long-term engagement with her subjects. Her documentary We Don’t Talk premiered in 2022 at Movies That Matter, where it was nominated for the Grand Jury Documentary Award. In 2025, her latest film House of Hope premiered at IDFA and was nominated for the IDFA Award for Best Dutch Film. In 2026, House of Hope was selected for competition at Hot Docs in Toronto. Alongside her filmmaking, Marjolein develops photographic projects that exist both independently and in dialogue with her films. In 2023, her photographic work was exhibited at Photoville in New York, and in 2025 at Head On Photo Festival in Sydney.
