Discussion with eco-traveler Michał Kitowski: How to travel without harming the world or people after the screening of “Far. The Story of a Journey around the World” by Patrick Allgaier and Gwendolin Weisser

The protagonists, Gwen Weisser and Patrick Allgaier, packed their rucksacks and set out to travel around the world, journeying east from their home city of Freiburg. They hitchhiked to Moscow through the Balkans before heading to Central Asia, the Caucasus, Iran, Pakistan, India, Nepal, China, and Mongolia. Sleeping mainly in a tiny tent far from cities and traveling on a shoestring budget, they somehow journeyed 97 000 kilometers in 4 years, using 667 different vehicles. Why does their trip teach tolerance? What should we be thankful for on a journey? How to help others while traveling and how to express our gratitude to the world for all it allows us to do?
Michał Kitkowski – traveler concerned about the fate of our planet. Having noticed the severity of climate change and the scale of the problem with garbage during his 2-year hitchhiking expedition around the world, he decided to work on these issues. Kitkowski runs a company working on renewable energy sources and belongs to Weź się Zbierz (Let’s Get Together), an association which organizes Weź to Podnieś (Let’s Pick It Up) – a forest clean-up project and educational initiative for kids.
