Record-breaking 15th edition
The Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival is the biggest documentary film festival in Poland. The 15th Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival turned out to be record-breaking in terms of numbers. Our invitation to go on an adventure with documentary cinema was accepted by more than 65 000 audience members in five Polish cities, who chose festival screenings and accompanying events. We screened more than 160 films in Warsaw, Wrocław, Gdynia, Bydgoszcz and Lublin. We also visited another 19 cities with „Weekend with Millennium Docs Against Gravity”, our selection of the best Polish films of the festival .
The interest in the Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival is growing with a spectacular speed. Feature documentaries, an artform promoted by the Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival from the inception of the festival, have found for good its audience in Poland.
„The continuously increasing number of audience members during the Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival shows that we have correctly identified the audience’s needs and gained their trust for our concept of a film festival. A curated selection of films, collaboration with dozens of institutions and media outlets create an unprecedented festival, which takes place in five cities simultaneously” – says Artur Liebhart, the festival director.
„What connects all those elements is our respect towards the audience. We present what is best among international documentaries. The variety of this film genre is mesmerizing and exciting. The expansive program of the 15th edition was created thanks to the institutions who helped us finance it. I would like to thank the main partner of our festival, Bank Millennium, and the Polish Film Institute, the City of Warsaw, the National Film Archive - Audiovisual Institute, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, Creative Europe - Media Programme of the European Union and other partners of the festival for the trust and the help during the production of this celebration of documentary filmmaking - emphasizes Artur Liebhart, the director of the festival.
Consistent development of the film program
This is the only European festival that takes place simultaneously in five Polish cities: Warsaw, Gdynia, Wrocław, Bydgoszcz and Lublin.
11 years ago it was the first festival in Poland to organize a feature documentary competition (Bank Millennium Award). In 2009, the festival received a prestigious award from the Polish Film Institute as „the most important international film event” in Poland. In 2013, we were again nominated in this category.
The festival has made documentaries fashionable in Poland and has generated a great interest from the audience which came as the effect of a consistently developed and attractive festival program. The Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival is a co-founder and a member of the Doc Alliance, uniting seven key European documentary festivals: CPH:DOX Copenhagen, DOK Leipzig, MFFD Jihlava, FID Marseille, Visions du Réel, Nyon, Doclisboa and the Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival.
