MDAG Vision

MDAG Vision is the virtual experience section accompanying the festival’s film programme. The experiences employ the latest technology to engage all the senses
in reflecting on fundamental issues of today’s world – from our ambiguous relationship with nature to the essence of human relationships. From a journey deep into the Amazonian wilderness, through the observation of a traditional Japanese dance, to an expedition into the imaginary realms of the human mind.

The exhibition consists of six experiences that, by combining diff erent media and adopting the viewpoints of diff erent cultures, create engaging narratives. It is impossible to experience them in any other form. All experiences are available in English.

Emperor

by Marion Burger, Ilan Cohen, France, Germany, 40 min

"Emperor" is an interactive experience in virtual reality, which invites the user to travel inside the brain of a father, suffering from aphasia. In a monochrome aesthetic, close to traditional animation, this personal story is told as a journey, with surreal overtones, in a faraway land.

The Imaginary Friend

by Steye Hallema, The Netherlands, Belgium, 25 min

"The Imaginary Friend" invites you to take part in the vivid imagination of Daniel, a grieving eight-year-old struggling with the line between reality and fantasy. With the latest technical developments in VR, he sees, talks and interacts with you, allowing you to form a personal bond with the boy.

Close

by Hana Umeda, Poland, 20 min

"Close" is an attempt to confront the ambiguous position of contemporary traditional Japanese jiutamai dance. The silent confession that is jiutamai dance is both a means of coping with trauma and a gag placed over the mouth; a means of self-expression and repression by a patriarchal society.

Body of mine

by Cameron Kostopoulos, USA, 15 min

"Body of Mine" is a full-body immersive experience that allows you to inhabit the body of another gender, where you can interact with your skin to discover stories and interviews of trans people.

Floating with Spirits

by Juanita Onzaga,  Belgium, Luxembourg, 30 min

Two little sisters prepare for the Day of the Dead in the mystic mountains of Mexico. A portal opens as the Mazatec community celebrates and we enter the interactive universe of their ancestors and the spirits of nature, each keeping a secret world to be unveiled.

Origen

by Emilia Sánchez Chiquetti, Brazylia, 25 min

"Origen" is an immersive journey through the Amazon Rainforest. Guided by a mythological boa, we explore Shipibo origins, unveiling environmental changes. In our voyage, first-person interactions weave the tapestry of encounters and teachings endowed with transcendence.
