Summer of Soul Silent Disco

It’s the summer of 1969. Harlem is drenched in sunlight. Thousands of people are in the park; the likes of Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder, Mahalia Jackson, Gladys Night, or B.B. King are performing on the stage. Nina Simone asks the audience if they’re ready for what’s coming; we can easily say that no one was ready for such a magical music event.

It’s late summer of 2021. Millennium Docs Against Gravity. The Polish premiere of Summer of Soul (...Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised) takes place at the festival. Directed by Questlove (the founder of The Roots), this film chronicles the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival. An amazing story based on archival footage that spent 50 years in a basement. This documentary premiered several months back at the Sundance Festival, winning two awards.

September 11, 2021. Kulturalna. Summer of Soul Silent Disco accompanies the Millennium Docs Against Gravity festival. Inspired by an exceptional film about an incredible festival, music ranging from soul to hip hop heats up the dancefloor. Clearly you all need to be there!

Artists:

HEIGHTS BEATS - Canadian DJ with an obvious weakness for hip hop. Famous for his broad musical palette: from Gang Starr to Drake to Queen to Daft Punk.

AFROFONIK - DJ, musician, vinyl collector. His sets cleverly blend funk, afrofunk, soul, afrobeat, latin, rap, and other genres—his mixes will get anyone to move! Associated with the Funk Invaders collective, Funky Freaks, and UAWW we love afrobeat.

HATE BUSH - romances every genre that gets the feet dancing. Says that you need Rihanna’s charm, Bowie’s flashiness, and the guts to sing Bajm songs at daybreak without shame.
