KPH: Rainbow families  – inclusive language workshop

„There is not just one coming out moment - the process of coming out never ends”. How does this manifest itself in language in relation to everyday activities and relationships with other people? Can language push LGBT+ people back into the closet? How can you support rainbow families by using inclusive language? And why you should not be afraid of making mistakes. A 45-minute workshop on inclusive language that will allow you to talk freely about everyday life that includes LGBT+ people.

About the guests:

Ola and Karolina are the mothers of Olek and Jagna. They live in Warsaw, where they run a playroom for kids and a cafe in Białołęka. On a daily basis, they normalise the topic of rainbow families by showing their everyday life on Instagram account  @mamo.patrz. The couple talks about their everyday life with children, social campaigns in which they participate, and the realities of being a rainbow family in Poland.

Cecylia Jakubczak - a sociologist by education, PR and communication specialist by profession. For the last 8 years, she has been responsible for the communication of the Campaign Against Homophobia association working for LGBT+ people. Her passion is inclusive language, about which she writes extensively, including one of the chapters of the publication "Etyka Języka" (Ethics of Language) under the patronage of the Polish Language Council. She also gave a TED Talk on the topic. She conducts workshops for the media and business on inclusive communication. She trained, among others, editors of TVN, Radio Zet, Pismo and Onet.pl. Her articles can be read in Duma, Krytykapolita.pl, Replika and Notes na 6 Tygodni. Cecylia is also a co-producer of the documentary "7th of August". Recognised by Wysokie Obcasy in the ranking of 50 bold women of 2017 and by Vogue Polska, which placed her on the list of 41 inspiring personalities giving hope from the world of culture, science and activism in Poland.
