Debate: Inclusion in Museum Exhibitions

following the screening of WHITE BALLS ON THE WALLS, dir. Sarah Vos

partner: Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw

In Sarah Vos's film, we explore the Stedelijk Museum of Modern Art in Amsterdam during a transition period when the curatorial team was working intensively to evaluate the museum's history, throughout which primarily works by white men – privileged by their gender and social status – were exhibited. Nowadays, those responsible for selecting the artworks presented at the Stedelijk are turning their gaze to women and minority groups, whose art has often been overlooked. Do we need a new art history? How does the selection of male and female artists representing specific social groups affect our perception of community? Representatives of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw and the National Museum in Warsaw will address the above questions talking about the strategies of these institutions.
