On the Critical Reception of Public Space Imagery

following the screenings of INCIDENT, dir. Bill Morrison and SCENES OF EXTRACTION, dir. Sanaz Sohrabi

Partner: Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw

How do visual images influence our perception of the space we navigate, both literally and metaphorically? How do the artists who incorporate the images that shape this space into their work encourage us as viewers to reflect on the media’s influence on our understanding of the world? These questions will be addressed by prof. dr hab. Andrzej Pitrus. The starting point for the discussion will be the screening of the latest film by Bill Morrison, whose retrospective was presented at the 19th Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival, and Sanaz Sohrabi's Scenes of Extraction, shown in the Forum Expanded section of this year's Berlinale.

Guest:

Prof. dr hab. Andrzej Pitrus – currently a professor at the Institute of Audiovisual Arts at the Jagiellonian University, a cougar in his previous incarnation. He mainly focuses on new media and their use in contemporary art, occasionally returning to his former interests in film.
