Andrzej Munk. Perspectives
The occasion for organizing a mini-retrospective of Andrzej Munk is Michał Bielawski’s film The Passenger. Andrzej Munk—a bold portrayal of one of Poland’s most significant filmmakers, offering a contemporary perspective on his work and featuring previously unpublished materials. Andrzej Munk (1921–1961) was one of the most outstanding Polish directors, whose films Andrzej Wajda ranked above his own, and whom Roman Polański regarded as a master. Despite the passage of time, his works continue to resonate with audiences, impressing with their modern form, intellectual rigor, attention to the viewer, and, above all, an intellectual challenge to the dominant Romantic tradition in Polish culture.
