KinoUkraїna. Meeting with the director and cinematographer of the film “Viktor”
after the screening of the film VIKTOR, dir. Olivier Sarbil
As part of the KinoUkraїna series, the DCF cinema will present a moving documentary about the experience of war seen from the perspective of otherness, dreaminess and determination. The film's protagonist “does not hear the war, but sees it, and records it in images.” After the screening, we will talk to the film's director, French war photographer Olivier Sarbil, who is known for his work in the hotspots of contemporary conflicts. This time, he has pointed his camera at another man with a camera - a young man who, despite his hearing disability, decides to bear witness to the war and find his place within it. The meeting will offer an opportunity to discuss how to tell war stories through images and how to “soundtrack” silence. We will also learn more about the work of a documentary filmmaker in a conflict zone and how to capture on film what can only be heard inside one's head.
