Q&A with the creators of Pod powierzchnią (Bedrock)

after the screening of BEDROCK, dir. Kinga Michalska

Kinga Michalska’s latest film is a quiet yet shiver-inducing journey through contemporary Poland, depicting the stories of people living in Holocaust sites. The protagonists of Bedrock are not just people, but also specific landscapes and echoes of the tragic past still resounding throughout them. In the film, everyday life is intertwined with traces of violence, and the ordinary—with the Holocaust. The director brilliantly documents the disturbing contradictions that the residents of Oświęcim, Jedwabne, Brzezinka or Sieniawka in Lower Silesia learned to live with. After the screening, we will meet with the director and cinematographer to discuss the complex territory of memory, responsibility, and trauma.
