Lecture: Angelic adventurers. Queerstorical mapping of a city
after the screening of CITY OF MERMAIDS, dir. Andrea Fortis
After the screening of City of Mermaids which documents the world of femminiello, an ancient, fluid and non-binary gender identity deeply rooted in the culture of Naples, we will take a look at our local, Wrocław backyard. The city is an important location on queerstory maps. The founders of the world’s first association fighting for the rights of non-heteronormative people, as well as physicians performing pioneering gender correction procedures, had strong ties to Wrocław. During the lecture we will learn about the history of the city’s queer community, including transgender and non-binary persons.
Guest speaker:
Ewa Pluta – cultural worker, graduate of art history at the University of Wrocław. Works at the City Museum of Wrocław and the Art Transparent Foundation. An avid fan of the history of Wroclaw, which she talks about during numerous meetings and sightseeing tours. Currently focuses on cultural and historical topics related to herstory, queerstory and emancipation of people with disabilities.
