Documentary Academy: What is happening in the Gaza Strip right now? A meeting with educators from the Widzialne Foundation and Izzat Sbakhi – a Palestinian activist currently living in Gdańsk

after the screening of PUT YOUR SOUL ON YOUR HAND AND WALK, dir. Sepideh Farsi

recommended age: 16+

The film, using footage shot on a mobile phone, documents a year in the life of 24-year-old photojournalist Fatma Hasson in the heart of the hell that is daily life for the people of Gaza. The day after she learnt that the film would be screened at Cannes, she and her family were killed in a bombing raid.

What historical events and processes have led to the current situation? What does international law say about Israel’s actions in Palestine? We invite you to a discussion on the genocide in the Gaza Strip, which will take place following the screening of the film ‘Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk’. During the meeting, we will examine developments in the region over recent years. We will also discuss what we, as civil society, can do when we see that other people’s rights are being violated.

Guests:
Izzat Sbakhi – a Palestinian activist from the Gaza Strip

Marianna Łoboda – a cultural anthropologist and board member of the Widzialne Foundation
Aleksandra Łoboda – a human rights specialist and chair of the board of the Widzialne Foundation
