Maciej Cuske was born in Bydgoszcz, and lives there. In 2004, he completed a documentary course at the Andrzej Wajda Master School of Film Directing, where he is currently a lecturer. He also teaches at the Gdynia Film School and runs film workshops in Poland and abroad, as well as contributing to the Bydgoszcz Film Chronicle, a hub for young filmmakers at the Bydgoszcz Municipal Cultural Centre. He is the director of mainly documentary films, including: ‘Kuracja’, ‘Antykwariat’, ‘Na niebie na Ziemi’, ‘Elektryczka’, ‘The Whale from Lorino’, which have been screened and awarded at numerous Polish and international film festivals. Winner of the Polish Film Academy’s ‘Eagle’ Award (2021), Best Director at the West Lake Film Festival in China (2021), a Polityka Passport nominee (2020), the Bronze (2005) and Silver (2007) ‘Hobby-Horse’ and the ‘Silver Horn’ (2020) at the Kraków Film Festival, the ‘White Cobra’ Grand Prix at the Man in Danger Festival in Łódź (2020), Grand Prix ‘Golden Castle’ at Off Cinema in Poznań (2020) and more.
