Acclaimed director Erik Gandini (“Surplus: Terrorized into Being Consumers”, 2003; “Videocracy”, 2009; “The Swedish Theory of Love”, 2015; “After Work”, 2023) joins his long-time collaborator, editor and composer Johan Söderberg for this insightful masterclass on their 25-year creative partnership. Through case studies of past projects (many presented at MDAG and distributed in Poland), they'll reveal their collaborative workflow - from initial ideas to final cuts. Gain practical insights into the director-editor dynamic, with a sneak peek at their upcoming project.

Erik Gandini, director of the film of the film ‘Surplus. Terrorized Into Being Consumers’
Renowned Swedish-Italian documentary filmmaker recognized as an outstanding observer of contemporary social phenomena. His films, such as Surplus, Videocracy, The Swedish Theory of Love, and After Work, provocatively analyze consumerism, the impact of technology on life, and the meaning of work. Placing him at the forefront of creative documentary filmmaking. Also professor of documentary film at Stockholm University of the Arts.
Johan Söderberg - editor/composer
Studies in classical percussion, touring with many experimental/rock/electronic bands in the 80th and 90th, creating his own underground music videos. From 2000 working with creative audiovisual editing, mainly for documentaries and music videos. David Bowie and Madonna are amongst his clients.
