Everybody to Kenmure Street

Everybody to Kenmure Street
dir. Felipe Bustos Sierra/UK, Qatar/2026/98 min

On the morning of 13 May 2021, in Pollokshields, Glasgow – one of Scotland’s most diverse communities – the British Home Office raided the home of two Sikhs and attempted to deport them. This immediately sparked opposition from neighbors, who organized a mass protest and marched to Kenmure Street to intervene. Soon, more residents joined, drawn by social media. They surrounded the immigration vehicle, blocking it for several hours, effectively stopping the street and ultimately securing the release of the men. The film captures this spontaneous act of civic resistance and the spirit of defiance against the establishment. It combines footage submitted by protest participants, archival materials, and reenactments based on witness accounts, conveying the atmosphere of this extraordinary eight-hour confrontation. It highlights the power of community solidarity and the effectiveness of peaceful, collective action.
