‘We Want the Funk’ delves deeper into the nature of funk – a music of rhythm, energy, and the assertion of African American identity in the late 1960s – the film showcases dazzling performances by James Brown, Sly & the Family Stone, Parliament Funkadelic, Fela Kuti, and others. Interwoven are interviews with contemporary musicians and funk ambassadors, including Questlove, Prince Paul, and David Byrne. The film also examines funk from the perspectives of religion, geography, and music theory.

A unique open-air event featuring live music will take place at Coffee on Board’s TERRACES in EC1, right in the heart of the city. The event will be accompanied by a screening of the film ‘We Want the Funk’. With a well-stocked bar, attendees will immerse themselves in an atmosphere inspired by the film, soaking up the sounds and urban vibe that perfectly blends music, space and people.

Admission is free for ticket holders attending any of the festival screenings.
