Meeting with Jack Weisman and Gabriela Osio Vanden, the directors of the film ‘Nuisance Bear’
after the screening of NUISANCE BEAR, dir. Jack Weisman, Gabriela Osio Vanden.
Often perceived as a nuisance, the polar bear is forced to navigate a world of tourists, conservation officers, and hunters. Churchill, Manitoba, affectionately known as the “Polar Bear Capital of the World,” provides the backdrop for a film depicting the tense coexistence of humans and bears. The story unfolds through the eyes of an Inuit narrator. By challenging conventional nature documentaries and placing confrontation above moralizing, the film encourages a reconsideration of wildlife’s role as spectacle.
