Underland

Underland
dir. Rob Petit/USA, UK/2025/79 min

Beneath the Earth lie more stories than the tallest skyscrapers humanity has ever built. When they eventually crumble, and our species vanishes, the tales preserved underground may be the only record of our existence. What can the hidden wonders of the Earth tell us about humanity’s past and future? The film is more than a journey – it is a spine-chilling experience that reminds us how fleeting human life is in a world whose time is measured in eons and epochs. Beneath the planet’s surface lie stories of nature, civilization, and the cosmos, waiting to be discovered. The film follows three explorers: Mexican archaeologist Fatima Tec Pool, who studies mystical cenotes; Radley Garrett, a geographer exploring forgotten, human-made underground worlds; and Mariangela Lisanti, a physicist who ventures several kilometers below the surface in search of traces of dark matter. It asks questions about the origins and future of our species, portraying the underground as an archive of Earth’s memory – of nature, civilization, and the cosmos.
