DocStudio: Civil Disobedience: A Practical Guide

Partner: barStudio, Amnesty International

What are we, and what are we not allowed to do during a protest? How does active resistance differ from passive resistance? Do the police have the right to check our ID, remove us from the road, search us or detain us? How should we prepare for a demonstration, what should we bear in mind, and how should we behave when dealing with the authorities? A lawyer with experience in both the courtroom and street activism will talk about protesting in practice – about our rights and our responsibilities. The meeting is open to all; no registration required.

The meeting will be hosted by Anna Matras, a lawyer and activist, legal analyst at Amnesty International Poland, and a board member of the Tęczówka Association and the Gocha Pawlak Lesbikon Foundation. She is the initiator and main coordinator of Lesbikon. Queer Women’s Congress, and a long-standing co-organiser of the Katowice Equality March. She has been nominated for the 2024 Equality Crown for her activist work.
