Discussion: She came to New York to find the protagonist of her first novel. On the loves of Siri Hustvedt
after the screening of SIRI HUSTVEDT – DANCE AROUND THE SELF, dir. Sabine Lidl
Partner: MINT Magazine
Join us for a discussion about the film ‘Siri Hustvedt – Dance Around the Self’, a documentary that is both a tribute to the work of one of the most outstanding contemporary American writers and a farewell to her husband, Paul Auster. The discussion will focus on Hustvedt’s relationships with her mother and husband, her life between the United States and Norway, her home archive, and her interest in the visual arts, psychoanalysis, and neurology, which have shaped her later work. Another key topic will be Hustvedt’s writing process for her latest book, ‘Ghost Stories’ (release date: May 2026).
The screening and discussion will take place as part of the ‘New York I love you, but…’ section, organised in partnership with Mint Magazine – the main theme is New York’s legendary role in American culture, a city associated with success, freedom and an uncompromising approach to art.
Guests:
Dr Justyna Wierzchowska – Associate Professor at the Institute of English Studies, University of Warsaw. She holds a PhD and habilitacja degree in American Studies. She translates American modern fiction and art-related books into Polish.
