AREK PASOŻYT

protagonist of the film ‘Bigger Picture’

Arek Pasożyt – artworker. He combines socially engaged art, post-art, artivism, collectivism and cultural animation. Arek Pasożyt’s artistic practice intertwines personal circumstances (his background in the farming and working-class community at the intersection of an impoverished rural area and a medium-sized Polish town) with current socio-political themes. Through a wide range of expressive means, he brings to light alternative or suppressed perspectives and offers counter-narratives to the existing reality. In 2010, he formulated the ‘Manifesto of Parasitism’, presenting the idea behind his activities as an artist-parasite whilst taking a critical stance on the status of the artist in society. In accordance with his Manifesto, the Parasite lived and worked for four years in over a dozen cities, in galleries, institutions and cultural venues. Over time, his activities evolved into ‘host projects’. Towards the end of 2017, as street protests intensified, he began participating in them with his ‘Striking Paintings’. (www.parasite.pl)
