Ewa Benesz (b. 1943) is a performance artist, pioneer of paratheatre, actress at the Byrscy Theatre in Gorzów Wielkopolski and at Jerzy Grotowski’s Laboratory Theatre from 1966 to 1968, co-founder of the Puławy Theatre Studio, which operated from 1970 –1974, creator of the performative ‘Wanderings with Pan Tadeusz’ by A. Mickiewicz, 1975–81, creator of artistic projects linked to major works of Polish and European literature, including M. Rilke’s ‘Duino Elegies’ (1977–1981), ‘A Study of a Wedding’ (Primo Studio in Naples, 2000), and the hymns of the ‘Vedas’ and cosmogonic myths in world literature as part of the international ‘Genesi’ project, Italy, 2001–2007. Creator of original paratheatrical cyclical events linked to the tradition of celebrating the seasons. Since 1983, she has been working in Italy, across Europe and in Latin America. She has given guest lectures at art schools and universities, mainly in Naples since 2001, and occasionally in Catania and Rome.
