American author Joe Kane was a member of the 1985-1986 Amazon Source to Sea Expedition, which completed the first source-to-sea navigation of the Amazon River, a six-month, 6,800-kilometer journey by foot, raft, and kayak. His book about that adventure, Running the Amazon (published in Poland as z nurtem Amazonki), was a New York Times bestseller. The expedition is the subject of the documentary film Nurt, which is making its premiere at Millennium Docs Against Gravity.
