Dutch artist Jeroen Kooijmans tells a story of love and darkness. For 30 years, he kept a video diary documenting his love, art, and struggles with psychosis. Personal yet universal, the film is told through a poetic visual language. Jeroen seeks to overcome his demons through creativity while paying tribute to his wife, Elspeth Diederix. He realized that one cannot truly love someone without first loving oneself. Although both are acclaimed artists in the Netherlands, they rarely collaborate. When Jeroen proposed the project, she replied: “This is really very kind and interesting, but I think it’s your portrait.” The result is a cinematic diary full of extraordinary video art—a love letter from Kooijmans to Diederix.
