Film Discussion Club at DCF. Introduction to the film ‘Heart of Light – 11 Songs for Fiji’

before the screening of HEART OF LIGHT – 11 SONGS FOR FIJI, dir. Cynthia Beatt

The star of May’s ‘Centrum’ Film Discussion Club at the DCF is the icon, performer, and artists’ muse – Tilda Swinton. In the film ‘Heart of Light – 11 Songs for Fiji’, she plays Iona, who, after decades spent abroad, returns to her family home to seek answers to the questions that have been troubling her. It is a speculative autobiography by Cynthia Beatt, a British director who grew up in Jamaica and the Fiji Islands. The result is a poetic film that combines ethnographic research and essayistic fiction.
