KinoKorea. An introduction to the film ‘North South Man Woman’

before the screening NORTH SOUTH MAN WOMAN, dir. Morten Traavik, Sun Kim

Is the division on the Korean Peninsula defined only by geography, or does it also manifest in gender relations? In contemporary South Korea — marked by growing gender conflict and a highly competitive marriage market — interest in North Korean partners is increasing. This is accompanied by perceptions, stereotypes, and expectations shaped by decades of political separation. During the introduction to the film, we will examine these contexts to prepare ourselves for an encounter with the protagonists of ‘North South Man Woman’.
