KinoUkraїna. Meeting with the director and the protagonist of the film ‘Traces’
after the screening of TRACES, dir. Alisa Kovalenko, Marysia Nikitiuk
As part of the KinoUkraїna series at the DCF cinema, we will be screening a moving documentary about Ukrainian women who, having experienced sexual violence and torture during the Russian invasion, have decided to break their silence and share their stories. The film by Alisa Kovalenko and Marysia Nikitiuk paints a multi-voiced portrait of trauma, yet also of solidarity and strength. One of its central figures is Iryna Dovhan, a former prisoner who is now an activist documenting the testimonies of women living in the liberated territories of Ukraine. After the screening, we will talk to the director and the protagonist about how one regains one’s voice after experiencing violence, how trauma can become an impetus for action, and also about the courage to speak out as a form of struggle for justice and against impunity.
