Meeting: Hacktivism. Will we regain the right to information?

after the screening of THE END OF THE INTERNET, dir. Dylan Reibling

For some, the 1960s are associated primarily with the hippie revolution and the second wave of feminism. For researchers of new technologies, however, this decade marks the birth of the internet. For decades, the internet was seen as the epitome of democracy – a fair, accessible space that levelled the playing field. Today, we know that the global network is shaped by tech giants who promote standardised lifestyles, needs and ways of thinking amongst people across every continent. Following the screening of the film ‘The End of the Internet’, we will discuss global practices led by hacktivists fighting for the decentralisation of the internet and freedom of information with our invited guests.

Guests:
Jakub Kuś – PhD in Psychology, Vice-Dean for Student Affairs at the Faculty of Psychology, SWPS University in Wrocław. His research focuses on the psychology of new technologies, including studies on the diffusion of responsibility on the internet.

Jacek Orłowski – Head of the Department for Cooperation with External Entities in Electronic Document Management at the NASK National Research Institute, network administrator. He established the second local area network in Wrocław and the first in Biskupin.

Moderator:
Martyna Wilk
