Share this story with the world. Submit your film to the 24th MDAG!

Millennium Docs Against Gravity is one of the largest documentary film festivals in the world, included on the list of Academy Award® qualifying events. It is a place for World, International, and European premieres of the most acclaimed and important documentary films. Every year, it also becomes a meeting space for filmmakers and audiences, as well as film industry representatives working on new projects, which they present during pitches at MDAG Industry.

MDAG is the only film festival in Europe that takes place simultaneously in seven different cities – Warsaw, Gdynia, Wrocław, Bydgoszcz, Katowice, Poznań, and Łódź. In 2026, 180,000 people took part in both parts of the festival – in cinemas and online!

MDAG cordially invites filmmakers to submit feature-length films for its 24th edition in 2027. The festival will take place from May 7-16, 2027, in cinemas, and from May 18-31 online at mdag.pl.

How to submit a film to the festival?

For the competition sections, MDAG accepts submissions of films that will have their Polish premiere during the festival and have a running time of over 40 minutes. Submissions are open until January 3, 2027. The film submission fee is 40 EUR.

MDAG awards as many as 20 prizes!

MDAG organizes 16 competitions and awards a total of 20 film prizes. Films in the Main Competition, in addition to Grand Prix - Bank Millennium Award in Warsaw, have a chance to win five local awards: Mayor of Gdynia Award, Lower Silesia Grand Prix in Wrocław, City of Poznań Freedom Award, Silesian Audience Award in Katowice, and the Bydgoszcz ART.DOC Award.

MDAG is on the list of Oscar® qualifying festivals. This means that the winner of the Grand Prix - Bank Millennium Award has an open path to the Oscar® in the Best Documentary Feature category, meaning they will not have to meet the other requirements in the race for the most important film award in the world. The festival also recommends films for the European Film Award. MDAG is a co-founder and member of the Doc Alliance network, which brings together seven key European documentary film festivals: CPH:DOX, DOK Leipzig, IDFF Jihlava, FID Marseille, Visions du Réel Nyon, Doclisboa, and MDAG. Every year, it nominates a feature and a short film for the Doc Alliance Awards.

The festival is a meeting space

Every year, MDAG is an opportunity to meet many outstanding figures from the world of documentary cinema. The festival hosts filmmakers and film protagonists from various corners of the globe, creating a unique opportunity for personal conversations and the exchange of ideas.

In 2026, the festival cities were visited by a total of 110 filmmakers and protagonists from abroad, 48 filmmakers and protagonists from Poland, and 94 international Industry guests.
