La belle année

dir. Angelica Ruffier / 2026 / Norway, Sweden / 94 min
After the death of her father, Angelica Ruffier returns to her childhood home and recalls her first, intense adolescent love for her history teacher.

After the death of her father, Angelica Ruffier (the film’s director) returns to her family home in Morières-lès-Avignon to clear it out. While sorting through belongings – both material and memories – she recalls one of the most important relationships of her youth: a solitary yet intensely passionate love for her history teacher, Miss S. As the list of tasks connected to confronting her past grows, Angelica feels a strong desire to see her again. She seeks to understand the meaning of her own feelings and place them within the present. The film takes viewers on an emotional journey, exploring the power of memory, longing, and the attempt to come to terms with one’s past.
