Film Discussion Club Kamera: The City of Unfulfilled Dreams - New York

after the screening of DESPERATE SOULS, DARK CITY AND THE LEGEND OF MIDNIGHT COWBOY, dir. Nancy Burski

Our cinephile hearts always rejoice at documentaries dedicated to the making of a film. This year's edition of Millennium Docs Against Gravity brought us this joy by presenting “Desperate Souls, Dark City And The Legend Of Midnight Cowboy”. The film recounts the production of one of the most original pictures of the late 20th century. Feeling inspired, this month at Muza, we have decided not only to screen the original film covered by the documentary but also to devote the entire May series of the KAMERA Film Discussion Club to conversations about the dark sides of New York.

Although the title “Midnight Cowboy” itself may bring to mind wild prairies and saloons, those familiar with the film know that its protagonist roams the dark streets of a suffocating city in search of success, which one of America's most famous cities is synonymous with. Unfortunately, underneath the promise of fame and glitz, there are often shabby streets, dingy motels, and failures that cinema doesn't shy away from showing, and we're not afraid to discuss.
