Creative documentary, that is...? Opening of Łódź Educational Film Studio retrospective

Introduction before Block 2. WFO Creative Documentaries and a longer meeting after the screening

Partners: Educational Film Studio (WFO) in Łódź, Arsenal - Institute for Film and Video Art E.V., Foundation of Polish-German Cooperation

The meeting inaugurates the retrospective of the films by the Educational Films Studio (WFO) in Łódź, which is part of the 75-year celebration of the Polish post-war cinematography and the operation of WFO. The Studio is perhaps most renowned for its creative documentaries, developed since the 1970s when WFO opened its doors to a group of young filmmakers breaking away from the didacticism of educational films. What enabled filmmakers such as Wojciech Wiszniewski, Andrzej Barański, Bogdan Dziworski or Andrzej Czarnecki to develop their talents in communist Poland? What can we learn today from these directors, whose films continue to impress by playing with the boundaries of documentary filmmaking? Diana Dąbrowska will introduce the history of the Educational Film Studio in Łódź and talk with the audience.

Guest:

Diana Dąbrowska - film scholar with ties to Łódź, film critic, culture animator, organiser of many events and film reviews.
