Hans Block is a documentary film and theater director, author and musician. Born in Berlin in 1985, he has been studying directing at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts Berlin since 2010. His debut film "The Cleaners'' about the shadow industry of digital censorship in Manila, which he made together with Moritz Riesewieck, celebrated its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in 2018 and has since been shown at more than 70 international film festivals and in cinemas and on television worldwide. It was nominated for an Emmy and the German Television Award and received numerous international awards, including the Prix Europa for the best European TV documentary in 2018 and the Grimme Audience Award in 2019. Her TED Talk on the topic of freedom of expression online reached an audience of millions. In 2020, her essay "Die digitale Seele" was published by Goldmann Verlag. Hans Block is part of the Laokoon group. In her work, she combines investigative research with various forms of artistic expression. This results in essays, documentary films, theater productions, lectures and radio plays, which always focus on the question of how our idea of human and society is changing in the digital age.
