We are horrified to learn about the lynching of Hamdan Ballal, the co-director of No Other Land, by Israeli settlers. His film won our festival last year and was awarded the Oscar® for Best Feature Documentary.
An attack by a group of people on an innocent man brings to mind the darkest episodes of human history. Hamdan has dedicated his life to the fight for justice, documenting the crimes committed by Israeli settlers in illegally occupied territories.
Hamdan is in custody, and we do not know his condition. We do know that he suffered greatly during the racist attack. His film, created together with his Israeli friends, is a voice for peace and a call for the peaceful coexistence of both nations. We hope that this and other voices advocating for fundamental humanist values will never be silenced.
