Bigger Picture
Overprotective mom? Check. Silent dad? Check. Creative crisis and a constant sense of unfulfillment? Check. Artist Arek Parasite really has it uphill. To face his problems, like many artists before him, he heads to the Tatras for the first time in his life. There, he discovers a clue to the largest painting in Polish history – the monumental Panorama of the Tatras, measuring 115 meters wide and 16 meters high, lost over 130 years ago. Determined to find it, Arek cycles through the picturesque villages of Podhale and climbs the Tatra ridges. Along the way, he battles the summer sun, fragile human memory, and a faulty camping stover. As he uncovers new pieces of the puzzle, he learns more about the past — and about himself. But with his mother watching his every move, skepticism from the art world and his own doubts, does Arek stand a chance of accomplishing something as monumental as the painting he’s searching for? Bigger Picture is a tender portrait of someone trying to find their place in the absurdities of the modern world, where offbeat humor meets quiet reflection. At some point in life, we are all Arek.
