Marteinn Helgi Sigurðsson, a brilliant Icelandic intellectual and PhD in Old Norse living in Copenhagen, faces a life-changing challenge when diagnosed with a mental disorder. Rejecting conventional treatments, he decides to embrace his episodic madness and follow the experience of mania - allowing it to exist, resonate, and speak. He believes that the creative process is a journey into the unknown, a search for truth, and an expedition into the uncharted territories of the human spirit.
The film, a hybrid of documentary and drama, does not tell the story of its protagonist in a conventional way, but instead explores his subjective mental experience. It enters his inner world of visions and states of consciousness, portraying them in a metaphorical and expressive manner. Creativity is presented as an act of risk, approaching the limits of the mind, where reality, vision, and disorder merge into an ambiguous whole. By examining the delicate balance between genius and madness, the film reflects on the nature of creativity, freedom, and self-discovery. It is the story of a man who chooses to follow his own path, immerse himself in the chaos of his mind, and let his inner world fully speak.
