They have been and continue to be the muses of artists. Some have contributed to rock'n'roll classics, such as Marianne Faithfull giving Mick Jagger a copy of Bulgakov's “The Master and Margarita”, which sparked the idea for The Rolling Stones' hit “Sympathy for a Devil”. Others were accused of band break-ups, like Yoko Ono, who influenced the new language of art that John Lennon began to use, growing further and further away from the rest of the Beatles. Or of bad influences on band members – Anita Pallenberg was said to have incited Brian Jones (whom she left for Keith Richards) to evil. The same went for Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac, Courtney Love and dozens of groupies – from Bebe Buel to Lori Maddox.
Ever since rock'n'roll was born, everyone has been aware of the fact that it's a man's world where women are only an accessory. Yet when they intended to act on their own terms, they paid a high price for their courage. But did they always?
What has the position of women in rock'n'roll looked like since the 1960s, and what is it like today? Does the music world need a feminist revolution? Is the female voice as loud as the male one?

Łukasz Kamiński – he was a journalist of the Culture section for 23 years in "Gazeta Wyborcza". For years, he has been writing mainly about music, but also about all manifestations of pop culture. He wrote for two decades several thousand texts, including interviews with musicians, writers, actors, directors, visual artists, dancers, chefs.
