Dancing with AI – A case study of the production of the VR experience Conversations
Conversations is an interactive VR project created entirely in dialogue with various artificial intelligence systems. Its creator, Jacek Nagłowski, will talk about the months-long production process in which AI was not merely a tool, but an equal co-author of the work’s individual elements.
Jacek Nagłowski is a producer, director, researcher, and creator in the field of new media. He has produced nearly thirty documentary and feature films—mostly international co-productions—as well as fourteen VR experiences showcased at international festivals including Sundance, Venice, Cannes, and Leipzig. He heads the VR/AR Studio at the Visual Narratives Laboratory of the Łódź Film School (vnlab.org), where, alongside production, projects focused on researching and describing the language of VR are also carried out. Since 2020, he has been exploring issues related to artificial intelligence. He is currently working on the interactive VR experience Conversations, co-created with various AI systems—from text and image to sound and spatial design within the Unreal engine. He is also developing the project Bezdroża AI – poradniki przetrwania, which aims to raise awareness of the social and psychological risks associated with the rapid development and spread of artificial intelligence, as well as strategies for coping with these challenges. In parallel, he is working on AI Social Lab, an initiative focused on creating and promoting AI systems designed to address social issues neglected by the commercial sector, including support for excluded and marginalized communities.
