Lecture: Global Stories, Local Audiences: Co-production & distribution opportunities for European Documentary in Korea & Asian region.
As European documentary filmmakers and producers expand their focus on Korea and the broader Asian market for co-production and distribution opportunities, this session will provide industry insights into the current market landscape. It will offer a concise overview of available funding opportunities, strategic approaches for successful international collaborations, key industry/festival platforms, and the unique challenges and advantages of navigating the Korean and Asian documentary sectors.
Panelist: Kim Young Woo
KIM Young Woo studied Visual Arts and TV at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, USA. He joined the selection committee of the Busan International Film Festival as a programmer in charge of Asian cinema and also worked for DMZ Docs as a programmer until 2021. KIM has served as a programmer, program consultant, and program advisor for IDFA, Locarno, and many other festivals around the world. He currently works as a programmer for the Seoul Independent Film Festival and the Red Sea International Film Festival (Saudi Arabia) and serves as a program consultant for Jakarta Film Week (Indonesia) and Sheffield DocFest (UK)
