Girl Climber
Five-time U.S. champion and one of the world’s most outstanding climbers, Emily Harrington became the first woman to climb El Capitan in Yosemite in under 24 hours. This iconic objective, previously reached only by men, usually takes even a highly skilled alpinist 2–3 days, and only about 60% of attempts end in success. Based on spectacular images of the Californian rock formation, the film tells a story of the phenomenon of climbing, perseverance, determination, and sacrifice in overcoming personal barriers, as well as the physical and emotional struggle against one’s own limitations and the pressure of time. Yet this challenge is about more than just conquering a massif - it is proof that gender does not matter when confronted with the grandeur and majesty of the mountains. In a sport long dominated by men, Harrington’s achievement - having already summited Mount Everest and the highest peaks on every continent - redefines boundaries in life and sport, proving that climbing is not only a men’s sport.
