A Child of My Own

A Child of My Own
dir. Maite Alberdi/Mexico//96 min

A powerful desire for motherhood and growing pressure from those closest to her push Alejandra to take a desperate step – she begins pretending to be pregnant. An innocent lie quickly evolves into an increasingly complex charade that she must sustain for months before her husband and family. With each passing day, Alejandra sinks deeper into a world of appearances that gradually begins to take control of her life. As tension rises and reality starts slipping away, she faces a decision that blurs the line between a private secret and a public scandal. The film is a moving portrait of a woman trapped in a web of her own lies, and at the same time a story about loneliness, social pressure, and the desperate need to fulfill the dream of motherhood.
